The essentials at a glance

Why visit Rinno-ji?

Rinno-ji is one of Nikko's key temple sites and an important part of the Shrines and Temples of Nikko heritage area. Its main draw is Sanbutsudo Hall, where three large golden Buddha figures represent the sacred mountain deities of Nikko.

The temple gives Nikko a Buddhist counterpart to its famous Shinto shrines. Shoyoen Garden adds a quieter landscaped space, especially attractive during autumn, making Rinno-ji a strong cultural stop alongside Toshogu and Futarasan Shrine.
